Pat's Story
Pat's Story: As a dancer, I understood that there was a "peculiar" method of rehabilitating dancers that was called the Pilates method after the man who was the originator of this regimen, Joseph H. Pilates. I did not understand that Pilates is an exercise system and philosophy of health developed by Joseph Pilates for all bodies.
I was working as a dancer and as a choreographer for gymnasts, dancers, bodybuilders, and ice skaters. In 1985, a health club in Boulder, Colorado hosted an evening lecture and demonstration featuring the Pilates method on the reformer by Stephan Frease. I was captured! My work with athletes and dancers usually involved postural evaluation and correction as an integral part of the process inherent in training a superior artist of any sport or discipline. I was seduced by the methodology and system of Pilates. The concept of using equipment was not foreign to me given that I taught on the uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and vault. I began taking classes and have continued to practice and teach.
This past year I have graduated from the Franklin Method® Level II Teacher Training. This has profoundly influenced my knowledge of movement. Currently, Pat Guyton Pilates, Inc is enrolled in Franklin Method® Level III Teacher Training. Pat Guyton Pilates, Inc. is also hosting Franklin Method® Level I and Level III Teacher Training in 2011.
The history of Pilates continues to be written by each student who will study and continue to practice this work. May your journey be provocative, filled with joy, and prosperity.
We can only bear witness to our own stories...
"My butt is lifted! My husband says I have a six-pack stomach and I have more strength, balance and flexibility. My posture has improved. I no longer feel shoulder strain, don't get migraines any more and I feel more alive!
Pat Guyton is a true master of Pilates. She brings gravitas, dedication, enthusiasm and a deep knowledge of Pilates to every class. She is open and has humility. But don't let that fool you! ;Pat has a great critical eye. She is tough but she is on a mission: to help her students understand how to develop a strong and healthy body for life. She is a truly talented, committed and dedicated teacher."
